What you will hear at CBC

From the beginning of the Church, Christian disciples devoted themselves to the teaching of Christ’s apostles (Acts 2:42). As the apostles taught the Old Testament and wrote the New Testament – the best way to describe Christians is those who devote themselves to the teaching of the Bible.

By ‘the Bible’ we mean the collection of 66 books, written between 1400BC and 100AD, which were inspired by God and preserved through the centuries for us. We are to live by this book because it is God’s Word. As Jesus said, (Luke 4:4) "It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’”

This is how we know true Christians from those who are Christians in name only. Isaiah 8:20 says, “To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.”  This is why true Christians refer to themselves as ‘evangelical’  – i.e. they hold to the good news as taught by Christ.

In Matthew 7:24, Jesus says, "whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock”.

Cumnock Baptist Church want to build our lives on the rock-solid certainties of Christ’s Word, the Bible. We want to know His Word, teach His Word and live out the principles of His Word. By doing this we are sure of the truth.

Today, people are desperately short on truth. Many believe that there is no such thing as absolute truth. Some would tell us that our teaching is ‘arrogant’ because we claim it is true – not just for us, but for everybody. If we taught our words, and insisted they were right for everyone, it would be arrogant. But because we teach God’s Word who created and governs everyone it is not.

In a world that needs certainties to live for and certainties to die for, we have the privilege of teaching the truth. We agree with the psalm-writer who sings to God “The entirety of Your word is truth”. (Psalm 119:160)

The Bible then is our one rule of life and teaching.
